Advancing Sustainability in TVET: CTVET’s Role in the Greening TVET Validation Workshop
The Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) participated in the Partnership Outdooring Ceremony & Validation Workshop on Greening TVET in Ghana, held at the Airport View Hotel in Accra. The event was organized by GIZ, in collaboration with CTVET and the TVET Service (GTVETS), as part of the Pact for Skills initiative to support the transformation of Ghana’s TVET system. It brought together key stakeholders to validate criteria for greening TVET institutions and to develop guidelines for integrating green skills into TVET curricula.
Representing the Director General of CTVET, Mr. Samuel Thompson, Director of Policy, Planning, Projects, Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation (PPPRME), delivered a keynote address emphasizing the urgent need to equip Ghana’s workforce with green skills. He reaffirmed CTVET’s commitment to sustainability through structured frameworks, green curricula, and environmentally responsible institutional practices. He also highlighted the critical role of partnerships in fostering green entrepreneurship and innovation within the TVET sector.
The event was attended by key dignitaries, including representatives of CTVET, GTVETS, Jospong Group, the European Union Delegation, GIZ, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In addition, policymakers, industry leaders, and development partners actively contributed to discussions on advancing sustainability in Ghana’s TVET sector.
As Ghana advances its skills agenda, integrating sustainability into TVET is essential to preparing learners for opportunities in renewable energy, waste management, and eco-friendly industries. CTVET remains committed to fostering partnerships that drive innovation and environmental sustainability in technical and vocational education.

Empowering Ghana’s Future: Advancing Skills Development through WorldSkills Partnership
As part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between WorldSkills Ghana and WorldSkills Germany, a delegation from Ghana is currently undergoing advanced skills training in Germany. Coordinated by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) through WorldSkills Ghana, this initiative is facilitated by WorldSkills Germany and supported by GIZ. It forms a critical part of Ghana’s vision to reset the nation through skills development, ensuring that TVET remains a key driver of economic transformation and sustainable growth.
By aligning TVET education with global industry standards, this program enhances Ghana’s efforts to build a highly skilled, future-ready workforce capable of driving industrialization, job creation, and sustainable development.
The training, organized in three groups that traveled at different times, focuses on specialized technical and vocational education and training skill areas, with the most recent group departing Ghana on 24th March, 2025, for a one-week intensive session. The skill areas covered include:
• Autobody Repair
• Welding
• Electrical Installations
• Bricklaying
• Carpentry
• Mechatronics
• IT Software Solutions for Business
Under the guidance of technical experts from WorldSkills Germany, participants are receiving hands-on training and exposure to global best practices in technical and vocational education and training (TVET). This initiative not only enhances the technical competencies of Ghana’s emerging workforce but also reinforces the country’s presence in the global skills ecosystem, enhancing its competitiveness internationally.
Through this collaboration, Ghana is resetting its future by leveraging TVET as a tool for sustainable development, economic growth, and job creation.

CTVET Hosts Development Partners Meeting to Strengthen Collaboration in TVET
The Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), under the leadership of the Director-General, Mr. Zakaria Sulemana, successfully convened a Development Partners Meeting to enhance collaboration and forge strategic partnerships for the advancement of Ghana’s TVET sector.
Mandated by Act 1023, CTVET plays a pivotal role in fostering cooperation with international agencies and development partners while mobilizing resources to support technical and vocational education in Ghana. In alignment with this mandate, the Commission regularly engages with key stakeholders to exchange insights, negotiate partnerships, and drive initiatives that enhance skills development across the country.
The meeting brought together representatives from the World Bank, GIZ TVET Project, UNICEF, UNESCO, ILO, SIFA, the British Council, and other key stakeholders, including CTVET senior management and staff. Discussions focused on critical interventions needed to strengthen Ghana’s TVET ecosystem, ensuring that skills training remains industry-relevant and contributes to job creation.
In his remarks, the Director-General, Mr. Zakaria Sulemana reaffirmed CTVET’s commitment to establishing a Market Information System in TVET and a comprehensive TVET data platform to enhance decision-making within the TVET sector. He also emphasized ongoing stakeholder engagements toward the creation of a Ghana TVET Fund, a sustainable financing mechanism designed to support skills training and employment creation in Ghana.
CTVET remains dedicated to realizing the government’s vision for TVET, ensuring that skills development leads to meaningful employment opportunities and contributes to Ghana’s economic transformation. Through strategic partnerships, CTVET continues to position Ghana’s TVET sector as a catalyst for innovation, productivity, and sustainable growth.
